Job Description and Requirements:
  • Mosquito and tick-borne diseases are a significant and increasing health threat in Monmouth County, NJ and beyond. Educating the public about the risks they face and how to protect themselves is critically important to reducing disease incident.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Organize and lead a robust public education program focused on ticks, mosquitoes and spotted lantern flies, including but not limited to website, social media, brochures, tables at health fairs and other public events, library displays, lesson plans, presentations to various groups (schools, gardeners clubs, environmental associations, etc.)

    Assist Research Scientists with Tick Identification program, including handling of specimens, inquiries from the public, writing reports and communicating results.

    Assist as needed in field collection of ticks

    Assist mosquito entomologists with vector surveillance and insect resistance monitoring

    Assist Research Scientists with laboratory work such as DNA extraction and testing of ticks


    Bachelor's Degree in Entomology, Public Health, Science Education, Biology, Ecology or related field

    Comfortable with public speaking and communicating scientific information

    Experience working with insects and/or creating educational materials

    Willingness to adjust work hours for night/weekend events

    Familiar with MS Office programs, e.g. Power Point and Excel, as well as social media

    Bilingual in Spanish is welcomed but not required

Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Entomology, Public Health, Science Education, Biology, Ecology or related.
